Grand Canyon North Rim in October

Will be in the area for a week or so mid October. But looks like things close for the season October 15th. Thoughts and suggestions?

The facilities close around Oct 15 (campground, lodge, dining, store, etc) but the park is open during the day until the end of November so you can still see the canyon.

There is some very nice, easily accessible boondocking spots in the adjacent national forest - flat, good gravel road and you'd only have to drive in about 1/2 miles before you begin seeing some nice parking spots. The road is just south of DeMotte national forest campground (which also closes Oct 15). It's about 5 miles from the national park entrance gate. I believe the F.S. road is 422 - not sure - but it's right at the campground on Hwy 67. We have always boondocked there with our 40' MH. With your Jeep you could drive farther back to other views of the canyon.

There's a RV park & a nat'l forest campground in Jacob Lake but don't know when they close. There are also nice boondocking spots if you turn east at Jacob Lake on to 89A. You'll shortly see several gravel forest roads & again, you don't have to drive in far. Kanab, Utah would be the other place for RV parks. If you go there be sure to tour Best Friends Animal Sanctuary - an awesome facility in a beautiful spot. Get a reservation for a tour. Also drive to Coral Pink Sands State Park - amazing color in the dunes. There's also a campground there which we've stayed.

Mid-October is a beautiful time to drive to the North Rim as the aspen trees will be in beautiful yellow colors, most likely. Try to go!

Wow, thanks!

The North Rim Country Store across from the Demotte Campground - their web site says closes for the season with the weather. Do you know if it is usually open throughout October at least?

The road you commented just south of the Demotte CG - I seen 611 going east off 67, and 22 going west. One of those?

Thanks!

Twogypsies info is Dead On. - -

Some good Info here - https://jameskaiser.com/grand-canyon...ing-north-rim/

Last time we were there near Thanksgiving - Small amount of Snow and roads were still Open. Campers were Parked all along the road in small pull out spots along the way (boondocking). Was as serene and Beautiful as you Can Imagine, Do not Miss IT.

Be sure you are well supplied no matter when you go as the supplies are few and if there, very $$$$.

IMHO this is almost a hidden Treasure in the NP system - always full in season but never with a feel of being Crowded, with it being in a higher elevation and you entering through the Pine Forest, it is a totally different feel when you arrive to stare out over it.

For us, the Lodge and the Morning Buffet, has always been a tradition and I would Highly recommend it if you can make that possible before they close.

Sunrise - Sunset - and a Surprise Snowfall will provide you with some Super images. Hopefully, you might share some after the journey there. -

Best of Luck

Sorry for the confusion. Yes, it's F.S. 22. It has better access for big rigs than 611. There's a nice wide shoulder along Hwy 67 that you could park and unhook the Jeep for scouting out a parking spot. You don't have to go far on F.S. 22 to find one.

I like the canyon better in the winter, the snow really contrasts with the rock and canyon walls. I'd try to get in there for some great views....
