sounds like a day trip. once you get to the lodge you find more than enough to see and do in this vicinity to fill your day not near as commercial as the south rim, just a wonderful area full of breath taking views

Looks like a 125 mile drive one way. Piece of cake in the toad. The North Rim is way less visited and therefore a lot more pleasant. There are various lookouts and I'm sure you'll enjoy the sites. Have a great time.

Bear in mind that from the north rim at mid-day you will be looking into the sun. While that doesn't diminish the awesomeness of the view, it makes picture taking a little more difficult.

If possible, arranging to be at the lodge for supper in late afternoon or early evening really brings out the beauty of the scenery.

x2 on the north rim lodge dining room for lunch or dinner. they didn't serve breakfast in the main dining room when we were there.
the food and service are good and the views are great.
when we ate there, the prices were reasonable too.

There is more to see on the North Rim than just at the Lodge, one day will not do it,l so take the rig and spend the time to explore.

No full hookups on the North Rim (except employees). The campground is normally full so don't expect to get a "first come first served" spot.

The lodge serves 3 meals a day but the view comes at a price. They are very proud of their food based on the prices. Evening meal requires a reservation. The tour buses invade and it gets crowded (not South Rim crowded but...).

We didn't have any issues with climbs in our RV. It can be slow going getting climbing onto the plateau, from either direction, 4,000' (ish) to 8,500' (ish).

Make sure you drive to Cape Royal and Point Imperial. It is a 40 mile round trip from the main road. Attempting it with an RV is problematic. Narrow windy roads with tree branches attaking the side of wide vehicles.

I seem to remember that there is a full service campground at Jacob Lake which is where you turn south to go to the North Rim. It is about 50 miles to the Lodge on the north rim. The Lodge at the north rim is made up of a number of rustic cabins which are a neat place to stay a night. Weather on the north rim is cooler and wetter than the south rim. It reminded us of Yellowstone. It is worth the drive to see.
