After 6 weeks of fabulous sightseeing from Atlanta to Yellowstone and now at Trailer Village, it is time to head back home to Atlanta. We're planning on heading directly home with limited time left for stops along the way. We usually only travel 250 miles or less daily and stop for 2 nights after every 3 or so days of travel.

I use both auto and truck routing software and Google maps for planning. I'm trying to decide on the best route for terrain, weather, ease of driving, etc.

My choices seem to be either mostly I-40, I-40 and I-20, or mostly I-20. I have reservations through Albuquerque and no plans after that.

Can anyone share recent experiences along these routes and/or suggest a pleasant trip home?

we have used this free allstays website extensively to find a comfortable and safe place to spend the night and get some sleep. imho this site is the best walmart site there is. allstays also includes other places like truck stops and parks along your route.

We have run I-40 and it is one boring route, especially through Oklahoma and Texas. That said, it is about the shortest to Atlanta that I have found. Just as you cross the river in Memphis, start looking to the right and find 78 to Birmingham. Then I-20 to Atlanta.
