Greenwood SC to Chapel Hill, NC

I will be traveling to Chapel Hill NC for football game next weekend. Will be leaving from Greenwood, SC. Mapquest shows I-85 then 40. I was wanting to stay off 85 in SC due to construction. I was looking at the route that takes you out 72 to 121 to Chester. Then picking up I-77 to Hwy 49 out of Charlotte. 49 to 64 to 15 into Chapel Hill. Just wanted to check with anyone since I have never been on these roads with the RV. Thanks

I've done that and can tell you that you're basically limited to I-85/40 for the fast (highway) route.

I would consider that a "you can't get there from here" route if you didn't take 85. It's like there is a huge void in the center of the state when it comes to highways.
I'd not try to sneak into CH on any back roads either (once you are in the area). Go on I-40 until you get to the CH exit(s). There are a couple off of 85/40 (Graham area) that will get you down there but they're going to be more work than they are worth.

Iíve done both segments you mention with no problems. Thatís the way I would choose. 49 is mostly 2 lane but itís a good drive.

Thanks for all the help. I just wasn't crazy about 85 and that construction. Just went thru all that last week in a car and it was a mess.
