The two major considerations are time and money. It is faster and less expensive to take the Del Mem Brdg than the ferry from Cape May to Lewes, Del. After the ferry you have a long way to go to hook up to any major highways. If you do decide to take the ferry head towards Ocean City and take 50 West towards Annapolis and you will cross the Bay Bridge. Stay on 50 to 301 South and you will eventually pick up 95 20 miles north of Richmond 95 - 295 split.

I have done both and agree with the comments already made about time and money. If it were summer I would not recommend the ferry heavy traffic and very slow in Delaware. This time of year you won't have any traffic on the GSP or in Delaware and the ferry can break up a long drive to Florida. Route 301 is a good road. If you are going to take the ferry I would recommend calling ahead and making a reservation. Have fun.
