Gulf Shores, AL to Memphis, then on to Michigan

Mapquest has routed me North of Mobile on US-98, then US-49 & I-55 to I-57 up to Chicago. I would appreciate all input on the current condition of these Highways.

Well, in my opinion, pick up I-65 somewhat straight north of your position and take it to Indianapolis and you probably know the best routing from that point. US 49 is a nice road but it is no Interstate highway.

I guess I forgot to mention that we have to go through Memphis to vsit family on our way North. Otherwise I-65 would be great.

If you are stopping in Memphis, might I suggest Midsouth RV. It's run by Harrahs. $20/night full hookup. about 18 miles South of Memphis just off 55 on High way 61. Secure, convenient and you can throw some dice and eat at Palla Deens.(I know,I know, but you don't eat there every night.)

Try Google Earth.

Lived in Mobile and I have traveled your route to Memphis several times in our motorhome. It is good roads just slow down outside of Mobile in Wilmer.

I55 and I57 are good roads we take them every year going south from MI only coming home we don't go all the way to Chicago we take I70 to Indianapolis to I69 up to MI. Avoid Chicago!
