I've read that there are favorable directions from Harrisburg Pa to Florida but I haven't been able to find them here. We are heading out for our first major RV trip in our new-to-us TT. We live right along Route 15 near Harrisburg. Do you any suggestions on what route to take? Thanks!

Search on "Florida Route", and there are several threads on the way to bypass DC, and Balt.

Try this route:
I-81 south to I-77 south to I-40 west to US 321 (4 lane and very nice drive) to Gastonia and I-85 south.
I-85 south to US 441 south at Commerce (this will allow by-pass of Atlanta and lots of traffic)
US441 south to Macon and I-75 south to Florida
I stay out of Washington and off I-95 whenever possible.

I-81 then I-64 in Virgina to Richmond and pick up I-95. I've also taken I-81 to I-77 to I-26 to I-77. Personally, I've done both and one is not any worse or better thant he other. JMOHO

1-81 to Winchester 1-66 to 17 S to Fredricksburg, 1-95 this in winter keeps you out of the mountains. You can take 15 the whole way to 1-95 but much two lane and slower going but a pretty drive.

I suggest the way we always go.....
Continue on 15 south to I-270, to I-495 (DC Beltway) to I-95 south. I know the beltway can be a bit daunting but, if you want the fastest way, I have found this is still the best. (Unless you go during rush hour(s) or there is an accident). I understand the 495/95 interchange is finished and that was always the big headache for us. Have fun!

I always take route 17 from Winchester to Fredericksburg. Saves miles over the I66 route.

50 to 17 out of Winchester is a little shorter but 17 from 50 to 66 is "no trucks" and the slower time and higher elevation is the reason we don't use it. The very shortest way is to take 70 to 270 to beltway at DC. This is the way we use on the weekends and after 7pm at night. Believe me we have used them all. You didn't say where you were going in FL,we folks could have routed you the whole way. lol Good Luck

Great!!
We're seriously considering a run to Zephyrhills, Florida. Can you give me the best route you would take from Harrisburg Pa to Zephyrhills FL?
Thanks!

Come down I-81 to route 522. Take 522 to Winchester, VA. At Whinchester take the bypass around the north side of Winchester and and exit on US17 south. Take US17 to Fredericksburg and I95. Take route 200 just north of Jacksonville to US301. Follow 301 to Zepherhills.
I do this route from Breezewood and just came down 2 weeks ago.
Buy gas/fuel in VA, SC and/or GA. Lowest tax. Fillup at FlyingJ in Brunswick, GA and you may not have to buy fuel/gas in FL. Also fill propane there.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> The very shortest way is to take 70 to 270 to beltway at DC. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
I ran both routes through MS 2006 Streets & Trips and cutting across VA on route 17 is 20 miles shorter than the DC route.
RVs are allowed on the no truck section of 17 from 50 to I66.

We had a great trip.
We took 15 south to I-270, to I-495 (DC Beltway) to I-95 south to 295 and then back on I-95. Then AIA to 301 south to 75 South to 52 West towards Port Richey. We had no traffic problems at all.
Thanks for all the good advice.
