Seems like you have plenty of time on your trip so here's the list:

- St. Louis - Gateway Arch and Cardinals baseball game
- You can head due west to Denver and hit Rocky Mt. national park, drive through the Snowy range and Wind River range in Wyoming, do Tetons and Yellowstone on the way to Glacier.
- Or you can head North from Kansas City and see Mt. Rushmore, Badlands, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park in SD, Devils Tower, Cody and Yellowstone and then go up to Glacier.

Remember Going to the Sun Road in Glacier is still closed.

Make sure you visit Yosemite on the way down the west coast. My son is working at Yosemite for the summer and can give you a tour.

Good luck and be safe!

Going to the Sun hiway is open but you can expect up to 30 minute delays due to construction. DO NOT take any vehicle over that road except your toad.

From the NPS website regarding the current status of Going to the Sun Road:

Glacier National Park Current Road Status
as of 5:53AM Mountain Time on 5-29-2010
Currently 29.0 miles of the Going-to-the-Sun Road are open for travel.
Visitors can drive 15.5 miles from the West Entrance to Avalanche, and 13.5 miles from the St. Mary Entrance to Jackson Glacier Overlook.
The section of the road between Avalanche and Jackson Glacier Overlook is closed due to the weather. GTSR open to Avalanche on the westside of GNP and Jackson Glacier Overlook on the eastside of GNP.

You can drive on some parts of the road but your currently can NOT drive through.

Hi John,
When we do the north west, we do it clockwise. I'm going to leave a lot of places out but bear with me. Start in the southern part, work up to San Francisco, Mount St. Helen's, etc. Go east through Washington state to Craters of the Moon NP, north to Glacier, etc. This puts you at Glacier later in the summer. All roads and hiking trails should be open. If you are able to hike, the hike to Iceberg Lake and Grinnell Glacier are day trips (one day each) you will never forget. When crossing South Dakota consider stopping at exit 131 on I90. This is where the Minute Man Missile National Historic Site is located. You'll need reservations to take the tour. Go to Minuteman Missile National Historic Site (U.S. National Park Service) and read all about it. There is too much to see and do on your trip. Just in South Dakota, one could spend a month along I90 (with a side trips to Mt. Rushmore, Crazy-horse Memorial, Mammoth Site in Hot Springs, etc.) The geographical center of the USA is a few miles north of Belle Fourche, SD. If you go, stop in Belle Fourche, at the tourist info center, and ask where it is. Unless you do this, it is almost impossible to find.
