Heading into storm. Need routing help!

Our plans to get to warmer weather have been hampered by this awful storm. We are heading south on 81 in almost Harrisburg Pa. Any advice on how to go west around this would be appreciated. Have only phone internet and it's tough to view weather maps. It's beautiful and sunny albeit freezing right now. But not for much longer I'm afraid!

Think you're going to need to find a place no further S than Northern VA and sit for a couple of days to avoid the snow..could probably go another 150 miles South (looks like the worst is Northern South Carolina) and still avoid the ice, but drive safe...take no chances as these ice storms are tough in the South. They just don't have the equipment to handle the roads.

Richmond will have cold and snow but not as bad as farther inland. Better weather there starting Friday.

Suggest getting to I95 and try to get toward Richmond. Call KOA for a park that is open, perhaps Richmond or Perersburg.

Hunker down until Friday. Fill your propane and fuel tank. Keeps slides in to prevent snow/ice damage.

Best of luck!

Go West into Ohio then I71 head towards Cincinnati. Then I71 further West toward I65 then South from Louiseville. Its way out of your way but you won't have much trouble. And if you do, the temp will warm up quicker there.

I just watched a wx report, Harrisburg in the 6-12 " range. Suggest heading west on Pa. Turnpike to Ohio and wait it out. Going south may put you in a no electric area for possibly a week (past storm histories).

Walmart have hookups? Better to find a campground and pay the price.

How does this plan look: we are heading west to Columbus OH. Then south. Does it look like we'll miss the worst of it?

Of course not, but it's a safe place to park and they are usually very easy to find. We always travel with ~1/3 thank of fresh water. With that and the generator you can survive. Besides, you could always go into the store and pick up whatever you need from medical supplies to food.

4thfamily, hope you made it to a campground to sit out the cold weather. Just watched the weather channel and Atlanta is totally iced in. It is to be 42 today which should thaw the ice but due to re-freeze tonight and be even slicker.

North of Atlanta doesn't seem to be a problem so you could head south and hold up north of Atlanta until conditions improve. The weather is cold with temps in the 20's until GA. I-95 on the east coast is a mess with ice, but we are cloudy and warm in Ft Myers. Let us know how you are proceeding.
