Help Memphis west on I 40

Heading out next month for fall western trip to the balloon fest.
Been reading about the poor condition of I 40 west out of Memphis, would US 70 be a better choice for not tearing the cabinets off the walls? How far to go before going back to 40?

I use this DOT website to scout road problems along my planned routes. Right now, it shows a delay in a construction zone near exit 260 of 4 minutes @ 35 MPH. When the road section is highlighted in yellow, place cursor on that spot and further information appears.
From what I've heard, I 70 isn't much better than I 40 this summer, construction to repair bad sections on both interstates.
I would allow extra driving time for that area, and reduce speed to fit road conditions.
OTOH, since you're leaving from Fl., how does I 20 fit into your plans,at least until you've gotten West of Little Rock AR.

Actually starting the western leg of the trip from Memphis to satisfy the DWs....Graceland! I think I'll read a book.
Thanks for the info, I'll crank that DOT site into the puter.

We stayed at the Gracelend RV Park back in April - just a short walk across the parking lot to the entrance to Gracelend. We really enjoyed the tours there as well!
