Interstate 10 near Lafayette, la. is not horrible. I don't know where you got your info, but it is false.

welcome to irv2.
this free allstays website mostly deals with free overnight parking at walmarts but also includes other camping including state parks, etc. this website is kept up to date by the users.
this forum has a search function where you can find info on the pros and cons of walmart parking and etiquette.

I have heard that the county that includes all of the keys has a law that basically prohibits ALLovernight parking of RVs except in a campground, and tickets are pricey. So don't try to boondock.

You might also want to also check out Mexico Beach. It is just east of Tyndall AFB and is a nice small friendly town. We have stayed at Rustic Sands CG several times. On the very east end of Tyndall near the Mexico Beach town line is a day use area open to the public. You can walk on miles of beautiful beach with no coastline development. It is a very relaxed and layed back area. While in Panama Beach make sure you take a visit to Hunts Oyster Bar, it is a local hotspot for seafood.

This is true. Monroe county has an overnight parking ban so it is possible you will be asked to move on. This is especially true the closer you get to Key West.

Don't count out camping in the Keys. Call some campgrounds and check availability. With the current economy I'm not sure they are as full as they used to be. The state parks will be full but check online once in a while for cancellations. They are the least expensive way to camp in the Keys but are usually booked in winter and some booked 365.

- The Louisiana Welcome Station (on the TX border) has excellent coffee!

We haven't been down into Florida since we started RVing, so that's as much as I know. Good luck and have fun.
SarahW don't know when was the last time you passed though lafayette on I10 but it's some of the best road in the nation. the bad parts of I10 in Louisiana are just across the line from texas in the lake charles area and around the slidell are area
