There are questions re the loop New York , Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, Moncton, Prince Edward Island, Halifax, then hwy 1 saint stephen hwy 9 to Bangor , Boston. I have read the roads are crook, the campground reviews I've read are pretty "average" I don't want to waste 3000 miles if its not going to be memorable in a good way. I can't imagine it not being incredible country but I don't see a lot written about it

I am a Nova Scotian living in Florida and I don't think you would be sorry in taking that route.Three years ago we took that route to get to N.S. and we stopped in Ottawa ,and Quebec City as well as Niagara falls.These places were all great with lots to see. PEI is nice we visited there a couple of years ago and enjoyed it very much as well. I am from the South Shore of Nova Scotia and that is my favorite part but there is lots to see all over ,especially the Annapolis valley and Cape Briton .There is a lot to see around Halifax as well . Make sure you get to Peggys Cove also. . For the most part I don't think you will find the roads in Canada are too bad at all . Route 9 from St Stephens NB to Bangor is a very scenic road and in the past has had a bad reputation but there has been a lot of improvements the past 10 or so years and I have to say I enjoyed the trip very much it the fall with all of the colored leaves. We have found the roads in the Northeast (New York, Mass., etc. } in a lot of cases to be not great but the problems are mostly around the larger cities. I hope this will help you make up your mind and have a great trip.

I was pretty stressed about the route and whether I was wasting miles and at the expense of coach damage
But we are set

One of the reasons you don't see much written about it is that not many people go there. This is both good and bad. Some years back the Provincial Government tried to push the "RVs only park in Parks" bit and what RV tourists that they did have stayed away in droves. I am told the rules still exist but are unenforced, but I do not know this for an absolute fact.

I have been there a number of times. I am a waterman and have only driven there once and that was to take a boat there. I want go back. I am hoping to get DW to Baddeck, Ft Louisborg, PEI, Halifax and visit some friends along the way and still have a chance to watch the tide. Of those I know that have gone, the only thing better seems to be going to Newfoundland, but that is an expensive boat ride that all say is a deal.

What is the deal with the tide??
Don't care about luxury really. Happy with basic facility's. I'm really looking forward to this trip now

OK,

About tides. The Bay or Fundy is know for extreme tides. Literally, boats will be sitting on hard ground and six hours later there is 10~12 ft of water and it comes in as you watch. It is a sight.

The only in parks thing was a set of rules like those that cut of RV tourism in Maine a few years ago. It basically said that (I have not read the actual laws) no RV could be occupied over night unless they were parked in a valid campground, no overnight parking would be allowed in rest areas or parking lots of businesses. I know little else except it closed off our excursion to the area a few years back. I am told that the laws have not been withdrawn (in Maine they were taken off the books), but are no longer enforced. Maybe a Canadian reader from the Maritimes can fill us in.

We were in NS in 2010. No problem staying in commercial cgs. Never did stay in a Provincial Park.
Baddeck is very nice. Bra d'Or Lakes CG a couple miles West of Baddeck is ok. Be careful there if ground is wet and walk the assigned site first. Very convenient to Cabot Trail, Alexander G. Bell Museum, etc.
Visit Hopewell Rocks....South of Moncton on Bay of Fundy. Reversing Falls in St. Johns N.B. is pretty cool when tide changes. The people in NS are great.

Actually the Bay of Fundy has the highest tides in the world. Many people visit the area every year just to see the tidal bore. I'm not sure but I think some of the best place to whitness it is in the Cobequid Bay near Parsboro N.S. or in the Minas Basin near Wolfville N.S. . The best thing to do is to Google "Worlds Highest Tides"..... Alan

I think the key to it is in the word "average". After the drop-dead scenery of the coast, any inland CG has to a pretty special place to rate much above average.

The same can be said about lots of places, same here in Florida. I've been to many very nice places that folks thought were average, after arriving from a beach front place.
