I-10 from the West into NO is not that bad, but the East side is like a roller coaster and the dips are close together. I had to slow down to 25 miles per hour on the inbound side of I-10 to NO, and even then it was jarring. If you are just passing though and do not plan on stopping, take the I-12 bypass in Baton Rouge. You miss NO entirely. You could even stop in or around I-12 near Hammond, or Slidel and take a day trip into NO.

Happy trails.

If you want a good scenic route, take 12 when you get to vidor, into Louisiana, join up with US 190 east to I49 in opelousas, south to I10. this takes you through a beautiful part of the state and cajun country. enjoy

Agree on if you aren't going to New Orleans proper for any reason like staying there use I-12 @ Baton Rouge to Slidell. From Texas line to Sulphur it's almost a brand new road. Sort of rough on thruough Lake Charles then smooth to Lafayette. A little freeway hop for 15 miles to the Spillway bridge. Smooth to Baton Rouge. From there to New Orelans on I-10 is good, lots of it recently resurfaced, even on the East side thru Slidell. Big problem is construction thru Metairie and idiot drivers who have no respect for RVs.
Coming from Corpus you shouldn't pick up I-10 till just on the East side of Downtown Houston.

If you take the scenic coastal route out of Corpus, you can run up the Blue Water Highway out of Freeport into Galveston, then pick up Hwy 146 through Baytown and bypass Houston entirely, or take the Boliver Ferry out of Galveston and see destroyed Boliver.

p.s., campgrounds along 146 out of Texas City, but call for reservations. Texas Winter Birds are starting to flock in.

I traveled on I10 Westbound from Mobile to LA (taking the I12 to bypass NO) this past summer. The road is fine. For me to say that is something of a miracle. Between Alabama and Texas there is about 30 miles is uneven pavement. This is not 30 miles all at once. The uneven pavement is in different areas. I have no problem taking I10 Westbound.
