Is this a scary ride?
Has anyone taken hwy 80 from Reno down to Auburn CA...and then 193/49 down to Placerville? That road appears fairly slow...

Hi,

It is a VERY slow stretch and I would never take my coach on it.

Good luck...

Rick

RKH this will be slow but not scary.Depending on you location it might be faster to take 395 out of Reno over to 50 then down 50 to placerville ether way the roads are fine I just like 50 better.

Rick, auto fish, I believe my post was very unclear. Sorry for that..
My first question was whether or not hwy 50 from Reno to Placerville was scary in a 35 ft motorhome...
My second question was whether or not an alternate route would be less scary...I 80 to Auburn CA, then taking 49/193 into Placerville.
Rick, which of these routes would you never take your coach on?

I've been that route with my 36' pulling a toad. You won't set any land speed records but you will have a nice view.
I may take that route headed east on our next trip this next summer and run across Nevada on 50 to Utah.

No road is scary if you drive at a safe speed.

None are scary. If you want senic take Mt rose from reno then North Shore Tahoe ,exit on SW end of Lake on to 50. Slow route to south shore, but beautiful
Or you can go to Reno then to Carson City and straight up the grade to South shore.
Easy drive IMO,Ive done em all several times in a 36 ft w/tow.
Lots of traffic on the 49 at certain times, but you only see the motherload once? Just dont be in a hurry and youll be fine

Don't take I-8o unless you want to have a real rough ride. The curves are are flatter than 50 but the pavement is terrible.

Take Hwy 50. Your coach will love you for it for the reason Coachmanjay mentioned.

Did that trip THIS summer and it was a breeze. Surprisingly gorgeous drive. I had no idea Northern Nevada was so scenic.

Just don't do it at night. You will first miss the view . Second way to dark to drive.

My response was aimed at the 49/193 from Auburn to Placerville alternate you asked about. Just WAY to slow and tight for my tastes. I wouldn't call it scary but a real pain offering no benefit I can see.
