Houston , Tx. route suggestions

Good morning. Driving a 40' Class A with towd.
We will be traveling through (or around ) Houston , Tx. on 8/3/14 this is a Sunday. Should we go straight through on I- 10 or go around the top on 610 ? We will also be going through San Antonio, Tx. We plan to stop in San Antonio for a few days to see the downtown area. Any suggestions for routes or big rig Rv parks in San Antonio ?

Thank you

Go straight through. Sunday should be no problem. 610 at 290 on the NW side is under construction with very narrow lanes.

IMO, Stay on I-10 in Houston, just time your transient when it is not rush hour, also stop well before entering Houston and then be prepared for a white knuckled 2hr drive. I usually stop at the flying J on the east side of Houston before making the run.

I'm with the others. Stay on 10. When we were in San Antonio this spring we stayed at Travelers World, one of the nicest parks we stayed at in Texas and 4 miles from downtown.

I would suggest camping in New Braunfels and commuting (about 30 miles) to San Antonio if you prefer camping in a more "natural" area. There are several campgrounds on River Road - named because it follows the Guadalupe river. And if you like waterparks New Braunfels has the highest rated one right in town - Schlitterbahn.

And of course my recommendation is not influenced by the fact that I live there.

Safe travels!

Admiralty RV Park in San Antonio

We live here and occasionally we staycation at Admirality for a weekend. Near Seaworld and direct freeway access to downtown and the River Walk. (20 minutes).
