How can I avoid Hwy 49 from Jackson to Hattiesburg MS?

This may have been addressed before, but here goes. We are heading once again to Florida from Arkansas. We have made this trip many, many times but are fed up with the horrible road from Jackson to Hattiesburg MS heading to I10. Does anyone out there have a better alternative? Staying home is not one!!! Thanks for anything suggestions.

Go to Meridian from Jackson on I-20 and take US 45 south to Mobile. Good highway last time I was on it.

Thanks! Will this route run us into I65 S to I10?

You can get on I-65 where Hwy 45 crosses and can go south to I-10 to avoid downtown Mobile.

I drove this route back in May and except for the very bad roads at Pearl, MS I thought the road was decent. It was especially better than coming down I-55. I thought about taking the I-20 to I-59 route, but it added a lot to my long trip already.

Highway 78/ I 22 from Memphis to Tupelo then 45 S to Mobile. You will have about 45 miles of two lane once you cross over into Al but it's good road, just difficult to pass or be passed. From 45 take the Saraland 158 exit to I65. Take I 165 exit and take the truck route across the bridge instead of using the tunnel. You will rejoin I10 just past the battleship.

👆👆👆 What Roger G said. I just took this route from Amory, Ms about 3 weeks ago and it was fine. No construction, road is good, not a lot of trucks.
