How far south before going west?

We are hitting the road the next few days travelling from Maine to Vancouver Canada area.

I was looking for some feedback on how far south to keep. If anyone has any recommendations it’s appreciated!

Take I-10 across. The Sierras have 10' of snow!!

Get yourself into a GOOD Weather Map and follow the Temperatures - it was 70 here in Maryland Yesterday - so - Also do you have any interesting places you would enjoy in the South?

Have you considered a Plane

Ya I hear you. Of course I can research it online and guess away but I felt it would be prudent to ask if others here had advice.

I agree, there can always be snow in NM or AZ but I-10 will be a better bet than the alternatives IMO.

Snow...pfft we are Canadian. Hahahaa

Joking aside, I am not concerned about temperature but I am worried about mountain ranges!

I think I am going to stay a little further north and take the 60 or 70 across?

A lot of the Northern CG's are closed. I would head South the most direct route and watch your weather. I realize snow is common from your location, but down South, 1" of snow shuts everything down and there is limited snow removal equipment to deal with any snow.

Silly of me to presume folks would know my intentions. We are not looking to make stops along the way except to refuel, eat, sleep etc... we are just looking at shortest routes.

I-40 through ABQ is shouldn't have all that much bad weather but I-70 crosses the Rockies just west of Denver. That route can be rather "exciting" in the winter.

I don't know of any Route 60.

If you're not too concerned about driving in winter weather, why not take the Trans Canada Highway all the way across? That would arguably be the shortest route for you. I've driven the Alaska Highway several times and the mountain driving was reasonably good, so I wouldn't think the TCH would be too bad through the Rockies (never drove that part myself). Truthfully I was pretty impressed by the quality and maintenance of the Canadian roads!

I live in Ontario, and this winter we have had quite the weather. Today it is snow squalls. Yesterday, and the day before, it was freezing rain. Travelling across Canada in the winter can be hit and miss. Very cold for water in RV. No RV parks open at all. If had lots of time, I would go down the eastern seaboard, then turn west on either I 40 or I 10. We have travelled both in winter. I 40 can have snow in the higher elevations. It depends on the year.

It doesn't have to be higher elevations for I-40. Yesterday I-40 in Oklahoma was ice covered from OKC west to the Texas line. I've seen it closed across the Texas panhandle and Eastern New Mexico following winter storms.

All the more reason to go farther south. Unfortunately, I am at home this winter. Currently a blizzard for the last 10 hours. We have gotten 10 inches in 10 hours, and its still snowing. See you next winter for sure. lol
