Planning a trip this summer and thinking about a loop that would have us going west on I70 out of Denver. We are in a 42' RV. It appears to be all mountains and that is fine. Any height or size restrictions or anything else we should know about?

This is a major truck route, meaning there are no height or weight restrictions to concern you. The climb to the Eisenhower tunnel is steep and loonng. Take your time climbing the mountain. When you begin the descent on the other side, manually gear down, use your exhaust or engine brake. You'll have lots of company in the slow-lane, semi's, straight trucks, other MH's, etc., just take your time and keep your downhill speed under control at all times. Do not try to run with commercial bus's, they've made that run many times and know exactly what, and when, to do things.

We drove the secondary roads with our 40' MH....Hwy 50, 160 and 40 and very scenic ways to cross the state. Lots to see along the way and plenty of RV parks or campgrounds.

We've done that too, and I would agree. All of these, including I-70, go through some beautiful scenery.

It appears to have been quite a feat to fit the interstate into the canyon West of the tunnel. The E-W lanes nearly overlap in some places as well as I remember.

It was shut down recently for a rock slide near Glenwood Springs so you may want to check to be sure nothing like that is going on before you head out.

All good advice. Two things to add: (1) While climbing the steep climbs prior to the Eisenhower tunnel, watch your temp on your engine. Shift down so that your engine is revving higher and not "hunting" back and forth between gears. (2) Check in advance for construction and keep an eye out well ahead as you are descending. When we were coming down into Glenwood Canyon, there was road construction ahead and all of a sudden, traffic was stopped and I had to literally stand on the brakes. Not fun, but we got stopped. Had I been paying closer attention, I probably could have avoided the sudden stop.

It's been a few years since we have been on this but as others have said watch temp going up to and speed on way down from Eisenhower tunnel. We started out early at sunrise to have the cooler weather. Follow as others have advised and you be fine. We took 50 west to Sacramento, nice easy ride.
