Hwy 18 - Victorville to Big Bear Lake, CA

Hello all,

Next month we have a trip to Serrano National Forest Campground near Big Bear Lake (Fawnskin). We would rather go up Highway 18 instead of going into San Bernardino and up 330 through Lake Arrowhead. I've heard that Highway 18 has a few switchbacks and am wondering what ya'll think. We have a 30' tt pulled by a F350 crew cab long bed. Overall under 55'

Do you think we can take Highway 18 up, or should we go up through Lake Arrowhead?

We have reviewed satellite views of the route and we thinks it's doable. Slow going, but doable. We would like to hear from others that may have done this route and what they think based on that experience.

Thanks for the assist!

Hi Bob,

Yes, I've already viewed that, but was hoping for some input from those who have actually traveled that road.

Thanks!

18 to Big Bear

Its got some pretty rough 90 degree switchback turns. Did it in a Class A 32 ft but ight be tough with your length

I've driven it in a car quite a few time, in fact I am driving it tomorrow. I would never try it in my MH let alone towing a trailer. A couple of the switchbacks are brutal. My nephew, who lives in Big Bear, says he pulls his fifth wheel up and down 18 with no problem.

Well we did it, went up HWY 18 from Victorville/Apple Valley. I found some CalTrans info. We were okay with that route with our setup. Definitely not a route for big rigs/5th wheels though.
