Hwy 20 and Hwy 97 in OR

Re-thinking our trip back to San Diego.

Can anyone tell me how the drive is on Hwy 20 to Bend from I-5 and Hwy 97 out of Bend back to the 5.

Thanks

Hwy 20 or Hwy 22 are both very pretty drives suitable for all size rigs. Hwy 22 out of Salem is a little more scenic and a little more curvy. However this is always our first choice. You and your significant other would enjoy the small town of Sisters. All of the roads from Hwy 97 over the Cascade Mtns to I5 are very good drives. Enjoy

It is a beautiful drive. I just did 58 in opposite direction a week ago. That is my fave. route. Why do you want to get back to the 5 after Bend. Stay on the 97 all the way to LV, then pick up the 15. I wouldn't dare presume to give you advise from there.

i would not use hwy 20 from I-5 to bend, road has bad surface and sink holes in some places. way more and tighter curves then 22. hwy 58 is wide and smoothe.
you can do 20 from Lebanon to the 20/22 junction, just slower.
126 out of Eugene to the 126/20 junction is a great road with lots of scenery and comfortable drive.

Hwy 20 and Hwy 97 in OR

gvjeeper is the one that's confused. if he indeed went to timberline lodge he was on hwy 26, not hwy 20. hwy 20 is approx. 100 miles south of 26. this is the problem with giving directions to someone when you don't know even where your at.
hwy 26 goes out of portland over mt. hood
hwy 22 goes out of salem, connecting to hwy 20 into sisters then bend and hwy 97
hwy 20 goes out of lebanon to sisters, bend and hwy 97
hwy 126 out of eugene connects to hwy 20 then bend then hwy 97
hwy 58 is out of goshen, and to hwy 97 south of bend.
hope this helps.

once you get to junction 22/20 or junction 126/20 you have missed the bad spots.

laj, We actually will be camping at Wilsonville which is close to my son's place in Lake Oswego. This is the place we are staying over July 4th.
Pheasant Ridge Recreational Vehicle Resort, a top-rated RV park near Portland, Oregon.

We live in the San Diego Area and have decided we will not come back on the 101 and wanted to visit Bend but work our way back to the 5 south. We know the 5 is not a scenic drive but due to having to get back home, that is the fastest.

In your opinion, what would be a nice, scenic drive to Bend and then to the 5. I not apposed to heading north from where we will be staying to have a nice scenic drive.

Thanks

We drove that last October and I think we took the 22 into Sisters as Laj describes. It was a beautiful drive and not an issue. When you get to Sisters try to get a spot at the City RV park which is just at the south end of town and walking distance to everything. It is a beautiful spot with full hook ups. If they are full there is another really nice CG with full hook ups about 10 miles up the road. I wouldn't recommend going into Bend for a CG the one we stayed in was nice but way over priced and not a fun place to stay.

If you have time, we worked our way across Oregon to the 395 and came home down the 395 through California, it was a beautiful drive (much better than the I5)and shouldn't take your more than 1 extra day. If you do that just south of Alturas there is a CG in the city of "Likley" it is in the middle of nowhere on a Golf Course and a nice place to stop for the night. I think the next day we drove down into the Carson City area where there are several places to stay from there on home.

from wilsonville i would go I-5 south to salem, take 22 to bend. then i would take 20 back out of bend then take 126 down to eugene then onto I-5 south. all good easy roads to run, very scenic as well. if you wanted to see a little more of 97 you could run south out of bend on 97 to where hwy 58 comes in, follow that over the mtns. to I-5 south. all excellent roads and all very scenic. all have rivers they follow while passing lakes.
