Beautiful trip you will enjoy it. It always seems Washington Pass is steeper from the east but no problem.

We last travelled the route in fall of 2013. At that time there was still a short stretch in reconstruction, but they should have finished by now. It's our preferred way of crossing the Cascades. We're a bit biased as SR-20 comes within a half-mile of home (the spur to the state ferry terminal) but we think 20 is a much safer road than US-2. The scenery is more interesting, too.

If you're starting out from Winthrop, it's certainly easier to use 20 than go all the way back to Wenatchee to use US-2. The climb from Winthrop to the top of Washington Pass was a steady 35 mph in 3rd gear for our 32' Class A with a V-10. Coolant temp stayed in the middle of the scale all the time.
