HWY 40 from Jasper to Grande Praire

I am taking HWY 40 from Jasper to Grande Praire, Alberta. How is the road and will it be okay for talking my 30 ft 5th wheel?

You won't have problems towing on that road. It is not a high speed interstate so keep the speed down and enjoy the spectacular scenery. Wildlife, especially deer, is abundant.

We took that road in 09 on our way north. Taking it was a good choice as it was not crowded and an easy drive with lots of wildlife and nice scenery. After passing north through Grand Cache, there is a very steep downgrade. Not certain about the percentage of the grade, but I stopped at the top, dropped the transmission into second gear and slowly drove down the hill of about 2-3 Km. No problems.

Highway # 40 used to be a Forestry Trunk Road (734), so it is curvy and FULL of Wildlife. Take it easy. Just past the Intersection of Yellowhead (16) and 40 is Hinton, AB with a Wally Place for the night. We stay there sometimes on the way to Edmonton. Another store is Canadian Tire in case you need RV Parts or Automotive stuff for your rig.

It is also known as the Bighorn Highway in the Milepost. Grande Cache makes for a nice stopping point, we stayed at the muni CG there and had super sized FHU pull thru site. The nearby Sulfer Gates is worth a visit:

We spent two nights in Grande Cache and another two in Grande Prairie. We enjoyed Grande Cache a whole lot more. As posted just watch your speed when you hit the grade there. No problems, but it has a bit of a curve and a bridge at the bottom of it so you need to hold your speed down all the way.
