Hwy. 61/ Route 61

Good evening,

In June / July we want to follow the route 61 down, which runs from Wyoming to New Orleans and essentially follows the path of the Missisppi.

What points should approach you (we will be using our rv) or which trip should you do? Do you know particularly good Campgrounds?

Thank you.

Walter from Germany

Sorry, I'm not familiar with that route, but sounds like a great trip. Good luck and have a great time.

To the best of my knowledge Hy 61 starts at 10 miles north of grand partage at the canadian border down the mississippi to new orleans.

North to south Silver bay, Light house, duluth, 61 runs with I35 for no mn, Hinkley has a nice casino with campground, I would take 9 at north branch to taylors falls and then Wi hy 35 south to hastings and miss mlps traffic. You can stay at casino at red wing if you want to go to mall of america.

good luck

On the east side of the Ms river, it is called the Great River Road. Wonderful trip! Can't recommend any CGs, sorry.

Thank you. Please tell me why can you recommend any? Because they are bad, or because you do not know some?

Thanks.

Hwy 61 runs down Miss river from Minnesota-Wisconsin to Louisiana. Only River west is the Missouri that runs down from N Dakota to Souix falls S Dakota and eventually runs into the miss river just above st Louis, Mo.

Also know as the blues highway. Maybe take along some blues music and Bob Dylan's Highway 61 revisited. Your thread sparked my interest in this route as I'm a blues fan. Keep us posted.

Danka! Can almost smell the smokey bar, taste the BBQ and cocktail and hear the blues. Wait - this is Texas - I can do this tonight and not leave town. Not the same though - I will follow with much interest. Welcome aboard!

hiway 61 will hit hiway 70 just west of St Louis...avoid 61 going through the St Louis area as it is NOT RV friendly(too commercialized). Once hitting hiway 70, go east on 70 to 270 south, 270 south the hiway 55 south....you will run 55 south about 27 miles and see a road sign "61"..this is at the 170 mile marker...there you can pick up hiway 61 and continue south and have a scenic ride after that.

Avoid 61 going through the St Louis area....take 61 south to hiway 70, hiway 70 east to hiway 270, hiway 270 south the hiway 55 south...At the 170 mile marker you will see hiway 61 exit....there you can get back on 61 and avoid all the RV unfriendly portion of 61 through the ST Louis area. 61 has been cut up so bad coming through the St Louis area...I doubt an out of towner could follow it through this area
