Hwy 78 between Birmingham and Memphis

Hwy 78 (Corridor X) between Bham and Memphis is now open to Coalburg Road which is about 3 miles from I65.

Coming south on 78 from Memphis stay on HWY 78 until it ends (do not get off where it says open to local traffic only, stay on 78 until it ends at Coalburg, then bear right and follow Coalburg Road for about 2 miles. At traffic light turn left on Daniel Payne Blvd. (Freightliner is on opposite corner)and follow past Flying J. Entrance to I65 is just beyond Flying J.

Traveling north on I65 take Exit 264. Pass Flying J on your right and go to first traffic light which is Coalburg Road. Right on Coalburg and in about two miles you will see entrance to new HWY 78 on left.

When this road is finished and connects with I65 in Bham it will then become I22 (about two more years)

Thanks, Barry & Linda!! Several years ago we ended up in downtown Birmingham while trying to find a turnoff toward Montgomery. Maybe now with a GPS we'd be OK, but it's nice to see the directions in print.
