Hello, folks

Planning on going into Zion park in the next day or so,via east side on HWY 9, I know that I will have to pay the 15.00 to go down the middle of the tunnel (my total height is 12' 9") max height is 13' 1" so i should be good there. I will unhook the toad because 40 ft total is max on length.

What about the switch backs after the tunnel. Will they be a problem, have I am 38' on the coach.

Thanks Justin

You will not have a problem before OR after the tunnel on hwy 9. We've done it in a 40' with toad connected EXCEPT for the tunnel

There is construction going on on the switchbacks (we just drove the switchbacks in our toad on Thursday). The road it torn up and you're driving on dirt. But it's pretty smooth. So it might be a little trickier than usual. But I think you'll still make it all right.

Well made the trip on hwy 9, had no problems at all.... in the tunnel or the switch backs, or the out rock outcropping.

This is good information - I am planning this trip, from Bryce to Zion via Hwy 9. Information about the tunnel is good to know - map did not pick that up. Noticed you had to pay $15 to go through, do you get an escort, or do they just turn lights red on either side? Plan this in late August, early Sept.

Thanks
Michael

Escort as I recall last time I was there two years ago---things change. Very well controlled--easy deal either way as long as you are short and skinny enough. FYI the Zion River RV park is a delight. Not far from the Zion park entrance--stay there check out both Zion and Bryce then decide your route--see the tunnel in operation from the comfort of your toad.

No escort.........too dark (LOL) Ranger posted and both ends of tunnel while traffic is stopped. You can not tow a vehicle through the tunnel.........you must disconnect due to length.

I did the tunnel in 2003 and 2010. There is NO escort.

In 2003, our 35-footer and a toad did NOT have to be unhooked. In 2010, our 40-footer and toad needed to be unhooked.

Funny story - same ranger who made us unhook in July 2010 in Zion was manning the entrance station at Shenandoah in May 2011!
