Hwy. 98 from Gulf Shores to Tampa??

I am thinking of taking this route instead of the interstates. My biggest concern is finding RV friendly fuel stops for gas rigs. Most Walmart's will not work being I will having a toad also.

we fuel up at Murphy's in walmart lots almost exclusively, and with our toad - what's the issue with using them?

without being on the interstates, you'll probably not see any truck stops, if that's what you're looking for...

you'll get used to using 'normal' stations, you just have to plan your entry and exit and get used to your length, turning radius, and height - especially if you're going to use the 'scenic' routes.

I prefer pumps that are parallel to the road for easy in and out.

My tank is at the rear of my motorhome and most Walmart pumps do not have enough space to circle back out without backing up.

US 98 is an old (new in a good number of areas) way to travel along the Gulf Coast. We have gone this way a number of times, much slower than the Interstates. However, traveling this route shows the new resort areas and also the old towns, especially in Florida. There are several good size cities along the way: Biloxi, Pensacola, Panama City, Apalachicola, Perry, Crystal River. No problem with fuel,.
Lots of state parks along the way. Grayton Beach and Rainbow Springs are two great parks.
Do consider going this way. You will enjoy the trip.

Here's a few:

Marathon Carrabelle south side of road pull through parallel

Valero Medart north side of intersection pull through diesel at pumps next to store only

Citgo Perry southwest side of road pull through parallel

Marathon Chiefland northeast side of road pull through parallel

Kangaroo and Shell Inglis are pull through but in and out may need circles through instersetion

Unless you're dying to go through the madness of US 19 farther south, turn off on US 98 south of Homosassa at Sugarmill Woods, then take the Suncoast Parkway (toll), US 41 or even I 75 towards Tampa.

Use Google Earth to inspect fuel stations, check pump orientation etc.

Thank you very much.

I was already planning on taking either the Suncoast Pkwy. or I-75 into Tampa. There is a FJ at Hwy. 52/I-75.
