Hwy 99 or I-5?

Hi all! We are in the Sacramento area and headed south in the morning. Any thoughts on which highway is the smoothest? Or in the best condition. Thanks in advance!

We have been both ways. Prefer I5.Less traffic and they have made a lot of repairs in the last two years.

Definitely want to go on Rt 5. Too much construction and traffic on 99. Have a good trip

Neither is very good IMO. There is less traffic on I5 as stated, but the portion of highway from about Lodi through Stockton is horrible. That being said, I would go on I5 unless my destination dictated otherwise.

I just came through the Lodi to Stockon area just a little over a week ago and I would agree that this area is terrible on I5. A lot of construction with narrow lanes (especially the right hand lane) due to the concrete bunkers along that side. Be carefull and try to use the middle lane if possible.

Use caution approaching under passes on I-5 , a lot of the highway has been re-paved , but at the under passes ; to maintain clearances ; there is no re-paving, and potholes were wicked in March.

Thanks I've often wondered why under the bridges they stopped paving. Makes sense... Now.
With as much construction going on I find it odd that our roads are so bad.

#1 It gets wore out faster than it can be replaced
#2 Too many people using it

I've traveled both and think I-5 is a bit faster. I-5 is most posted at 70 mph (I think) and US-99 posted 65 and 55 mph in places.

And all Interstates in California are 55 for trucks and all vehicles towing; strictly $$$ enforced.

Never seen it enforced at all on the interstates and bigger state roads. 395 is a speed trap from the north side of Victorville all the way to Carson City.

A couple of people ,in my winter park, were whining about their tickets, California issued,
after cornering the one fellow with a Class A and toad, who got a $750 fine , got him to admit to 78 mph. JMHO. he asked for that ticket.
The other towing a 5er. was 69 mph. $520 fine.
I do 60 on the same roads and have never had an officer even blink at me, they will give you a little leeway.
Driving an RV your radar signature is like a 747, compared to the passenger vehicles on the road, speed at your own risk.
