Hywy 61 S along the river?

Hi all
Heading to the Nashville area from the Twin Cities, MN in May.Would prefer to stay off the freeway. Thinking of Hywy 61 down to Davenport, IA and eventually heading east to Nashville, then west to Memphis and on to Branson, Mo. Probably get to Nashville on the 3rd day. Any input on south 61 along the river would be appreciated. Traveling in a 34' Winne w/toad.
Thanks
Dan

We go to Florida via Nashville quite often. Never had a problem taking 94 to Madison and continuing on past Janesville, Rockford and 57 past Bloomington and on toward Nashville. We have taken this route with 28 Airstream up to 45 Travel Supreme. If you want the exact route I will send it.

As a Towboat Captain, I see a nice campground not far from Nashville, TN on the Cumberland river. It is a COE CG called
Lock A. It gets great reviews and is on my “to go” list.

It is just upstream from Cheatham Dam and you we see some Towboat/barge action.

Address:1797 Cheatham Dam Rd, Ashland City, TN 37015

Have a good trip.

Patrick

I will say that if you've never seen a string of barges go through locks it is worth watching. We watched this close up where I 90 crosses the river going from WI to MN. It was amazing to us that those barges could be aligned in order to fit through the lock opening with only a few feet to spare on either side. Kudos to the folks who can do that.

Just a follow up ? on Lock A. We have booked a spot for 2nd week in May. Is spring flooding the norm down there? So far we do not have much snow up in MN for spring flooding down stream. But Feb and March can be our snowiest. When we booked at Tom Sawyer near Memphis, the following week, they said flooding was possible.
