I-10 corridor to Waco, TX

Does anyone have a better route to go from Tampa, FL to Waco, TX? Or is I-10 through Louisiana a good road?

Thanks

Just came that way a month ago from Jacksonville to San Antonio. I-10 thru Florida & Alabama is very good. Mississippi is good, after splitting off from I-10 to I-12 near New Orleans 12 is good.
But I-10 from the point where they converge back together further west, I-10 is rough. It is under construction on that section and in Texas near Beaumont. The lanes get narrow and the road is rough, in several sections. We got off at Sulphur, La and stayed at a little county park, Holbrook Park. It was $12/night. After we left there we went north to Dequincy and picked up 12 then took it to the state line.
Once across into Texas I-10 is still rough with the construction. After this section the road was not all that bad.

In Florida at Tallahassee we stayed at a campground called A Stone's Throw off of I-10 then at Pensacola we stayed at Avalon Landing campground, then at Biloxi stayed at Cajun RV Park it is across the road from the gulf beach on 90.

I’m looking at the map now. Seems pretty straight. Thank you. Routing gets a little crazy sometimes.

The problem here is that I-10 does not go to Waco. My personal pick on route would be I-10 to I-12, to I-10 (bypassing New Orleans), then I-49 north in Lafayette, LA to US84 in Mansfield, LA and US 84 across Texas to Waco.

Overall US84 is a good 2 lane highway, though there were some paving issues for a few miles between Rusk and Palestine, TX when I was on it last year.

This route is about 30 miles longer than going through Houston, but you get to miss all that Houston traffic, as well as missing dealing with the bridge in Lake Charles, and the construction on I-10 in east Texas just west of Beaumont. It will also tend to be much lighter traffic than you will see on I-10 and I-45

Definitely another good route to consider.

Thank you.

One other thing to note is the speed limit on most 2 lane highways in Texas is 75 mph, so you will not loose much time on this route, just the delays while passing through a handful of small towns.
