I 17 az
How is the drive on I 17 from Phoenix to Camp Verde? We are looking at maybe spending a few days in the area after the GS Rally in Phoenix.

No problem at all. A good interstate with a few ups and downs but nothing serious.

I-17 Northbound from Phoenix gains lots of elevation (from Google earth)
Phoenix ==> 1095 ft
Camp Verde ==> 3149 ft
Flagstaff ==> 6928 ft
None of this is steep ... but it is a persistent climb ... the first time I drove from Phoenix to Flagstaff I thought there was something wrong with my motorhome ...
You will notice a change in vegatation as you gain elevation ...

From Black Canyon City to Sunset Point, about 5 miles, there are grades of 6-7% to climb. Then dropping into the Verde Valley there is a downgrade of 7% for about 2-1/2 miles. Its well marked so just be ready for it.

Well stated. I have done this drive quite a few times and this is exactly what you can expect. The hills are just long enough to let you know if you have an overheating problem  (don't ask...problem solved!).

There may well be a temp change as you go north, and up, depending on how far north you go. A few years ago we left Phoenix (70 degrees) and it was 20 degrees in Flagstaff, which is about 125-130 miles up hill :(
