I 40

How is I40 for a cross country trip? I heard that it is pretty rough on rv,s

It's fine, we have traveled 2/3 of it from the eastern AR all the way west. There are some rough patches but all interstate highways have some rough areas. Have you ever been on the PA turnpike, I 476, by far the worst road we've ever been on. We spend winters in So California so we've seen bad roads, I 40 is good

Up until last year my route from 'Vegas to Dallas was done on I-40 from Kingman to Oklahoma City. Found it generally to be a good road with the usual sections restricted due to construction. The last trip I used it to Amarillo and was still a good route.

I don' find it any worse than any other roads I have traveled.

We now prefer to take the US highway system. So far they have been as good or as bad, perspective, as any Interstate. Much more scenic, also.

There's a stretch around OK city that is pretty rough, but we found it drivable and it doesn't last too long, 15 miles or so.

I am surprised at the responses thus far. I avoid I-40 at all costs. It is very rough, every 18 wheeler in the world is on it. It even has chuch holes in places. A total disgrace to the Interstate Highway system.

My experience has been between Amarillo, Texas and California. The area around Albuquerque is not bad.
