I-40 Albuquerque to William, AZ

We are contemplating going from Albuquerque to Williams using I-40 this summer.
Would appreciate info on the condition of the roadway and any steep grades we might encounter.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

good road ... elevation about 7000 ft at Flagstaff

we stopped at a wide spot in the road ... Ash Fork ... and had lunch at a bar-b-que place, Lulu Belle's ... it was right on historic route 66. Food was excellent and the presentation was unique.

we parked in the street right next to the restaurant ...

Easy drive, no steep grades anywhere along the route. The climb to Flagstaff is very gentle, but you'll gain about 2000 feet elevation along the way.

Depending on time of the year, it can be very windy in the desert. That can make driving a bit tedious. Slow down if it's windy. Had to pass by a 5th wheel on its side that blocked the entire I-40 west bound last summer. Not easy to do in a class A.
