I 65 from Indy to Atlanta

Use to hate the drive back down to Atlanta area and back - Skipped I 65 the last few years and used I -75. Is 65 any better these days ? From Indy ?

I don't get as far up as Indy, but I make the run from Atlanta to Bowling Green KY frequently, 75 - 24 - 65, and it's a drive I really enjoy. Really beautiful, aside from the traffic in Nashville and Chattanooga, but you can time it to avoid those. Otherwise it's a breeze to drive. Up and over the mountain at Monteagle (stop at the Smoke House for BBQ), and down through the beautiful valley. I always see lots of RVs on the drive, both directions.

There is still major construction in the Louisville area but it is a bit better than last year.

Good luck no matter which way you end up going.

I 65 from Indy to Atlanta

After I drove that route last year, a fellow posted that "it was horrible and would never ever drive on 65 again". Roads DO get repaired eventually! His loss.
It was just fine, with a few construction zone slowdowns. No worries!

Louisville to Indianapolis is very bad in most parts. It seems to have been a construction zone as long as I can remember and never seems to get better. The worst part lately is NB about 20 mikes north of Louisville where they decided to do something to the middle of the lane that causes it to be uneven. I live near Indianapolis and absolutely deread the first 2 hours of any trip south.

Well ? That's what I was thinking - I'll just take my usually known route - Indy to Columbus then 75 smooth ride to Knoxville - then on down to Atlanta .
Thanks for the I-65 update ! Only an xtra hour !

That would be out of the way. I 74 from Indy to Cincy/ I 75 is much closer.
The construction just South of the I 65 Ohio river bridge is a drivers nightmare if you want to change direction instead of staying on I 65.

I did indeed stick to the plan- I 74 out of Indy to 75 outside of Cincinnati on down through Atlanta (UhG) then on to Reynolds GA.
Just might! take 65 back up.

Take 37 to Bloomington then pick up the new I 69 through Henderson to the Pennyrile and on to I 24 to Nashville. Construction on 37 is a pain but not too bad southbound. There is very little traffic on 69 or the Pennyrile except at Evansville and Henderson which is a good place for a rest stop. There are no facilities until I 24 for rest stops. Beware that the bridge joints on 69 are very rough. My bad, didn't see you had left on your trip prior to posting. Just do the reverse on the return leg.

I think the new Northbound bridge over the Ohio river is now open. It is a toll bridge. It is all electronic -no booths. If you don't have a transponder you get a picture of your license plate and a bill by mail.

Follow-up !
I left Manchester at 5:30 am and headed up 24 to Nashville- Smooth all the way- New Asphalt north of Nashville . A little road turbulence after that then all smooth to Bowling Green and beyond. Now Louisville is a hole nother story- ! Construction still continues on the Bridge but relatively smooth till I hit Indiana - Looks like they are putting in 4 to 6 lanes both North and South that progressively turns into 2 lanes each way. All in All it was a Smooth Trip Back.
