Wink I-68 ??

We're planning on using I-68W coming off of I-81S in Pennsylvania traveling between Hagerstown, MD -- heading west to Morgantown.

Can anyone tell us what that stretch of interstate is like?

Thanks in advance !

Lots of hills, but it it is my preferred route West - very scenic (also no tolls). It's been 3 years since I drove it last, but the road was in good shape then.

Thank you "tomwalt" for the reply -

I had a feeling it was as you say, "hilly" - Is most of the entire route this way or just sections? And when you say 'hilly' what kind of grades are you referring ?

Wiki has a write up on it - it is hilly most of the way (112 miles I think Wiki said). I just build up some speed going down the hills and take what I can get going up the other side - and that big old V10 of yours should do even better than my 454CID.
Maybe someone with more recent experience will chime in.

It's as tomwalt says hilly & a beautiful drive. The pics below were taken a few years ago, looking out the front windshield, west of Cumberland. Our V10 ran the hills w/no problems. Somewhere along that route before you get to the WV border is a scenic overlook where we took the pic of our Bounder & Jeep that's in my sig.

How is it one careless match can start a forest fire but it takes a whole box to start a campfire?

One more hint - Fill up at the Flying J at the last exit on I-81 in Virginia.

Travel that way frequently. I-68 and I-81 do not intersect. You will have to use I-81 to I-70 to I-68. Long uphill pull west of Cumberland. It is about a 2000' increase in elevation over a 10 mile stretch. Then lots of ups and downs.

tomwalt - yes, I could see you thought we were entering the Interstate from the south. I looked and there are Pilot stops in Hagerstown, Grantsville, MD and Morgantown, WV - so we have our choice.

FREE2EYW - thanks for the information on the elevation and the road !
