Talking I-70 E/W around Richmond, IN:IMPROVED!

Good news for those who travel this section. Finally, they've paved this most horrible stretch of roadway. Westbound lanes appear complete & eastbound has one last coat to go on the bermside lane. HALLELUJAH! No more bone-jarring, alignment-ruining ride.

Thank you INDOT!

How is it one careless match can start a forest fire but it takes a whole box to start a campfire?

Thanks, good to know! Sadly, many other interstates are failing faster than they're repaired.

Are you sure you were in Indiana?

I KNOW! I couldn't believe it either. I had to turn around at the 1st exit & go back across the border to be sure it was really Indiana.

Mostly Indiana seems to spend their highway dollars on buying orange barrels. They then put them every 6 feet for miles on either side of a pothole for months at a time. On I-465 I think IDOT as completely lined the circle freeway, thus turning Indianapolis into a walled city of orange barrels.

Since they sold off the tollway, they've put the money into barrels.

Lori, thanks for the tip. We will be traveling right thru that area in about 3 weeks. What I remember most about our last trip thru Indiana was the never ending corn fields .

We will be coming thru Indianapolis from Dayton. Last time thru there I remember lots of construction so hope they got it done by now.

I lived nearby, and remember when that section of 70 was constructed.....

And Tom Raper wasn't much more than some campers for sale on an old farm property on the other side of the highway! My parents bought our Skamper pop up from Tom Raper in the current location in the early 70s.......

Even Tom Raper is a thing of the past. It's now just another Camping World.

Yeah, & I'll bet no more free hot dogs & pop either. Now that that section of interstate is fixed, I was looking forward to going over for an afternoon of browsing coaches while munching on franks & a Sprite.

My skinny doctor would say munching hot dogs is hazardous to your health and my financial advisor would say browsing coaches is hazardous to your wealth.

I think they both sound like fun things to do .

Glad to hear! We are heading on that highway next month, on our way to Banger, Maine.

We live in Indiana and are extremely ashamed of the condition of our interstates and their rest areas. Please accept our apologies for their poorly kept condition.
We also travel these roads and the repairs to our vehicles from the punishing surfaces is very expensive.
Sorry,
Indiana Journey
