I-70 from Indy thru Illinois

Last year I drove across I-70 & it was terrible just west of Indiana going into Illinois.
Has anybody traveled this road lately?

Not sure what you deem 'terrible.' I often encounter trucks in the left lane on I-70 from Ohio border to Indy, trying to avoid the rough right lane surface. No major construction tie ups in Indiana, but Illinois has a lot of construction zones.

"Terrible" is when I can't stay sitting in the seat & all the cabinets are falling off the wall while driving down the road

Rough and torn up highways are sadly a fact of life in the U.S.A. We have big trucks tearing up the roads and little funding or government interest in repairing them.

It was rough the last time we drove from Indy to St. Louis. I 70 between the IL state line and Brazil is undergoing major re-construction this summer, expect delays.
EDIT: Deleted alt. route US 40 because of major construction there also. See: http://indot.carsprogram.org/#roadRe...gs,trafficWise

This website has current road information for the entire U.S.A. http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/Trafficinfo/

Sometimes the old US routes are just as fast and more to see.

Illinois I-70 is being repaved from the Indiana border to Missouri. Not all counties are in the process yet, but you will be slowed down considerably. It is still the best route. Old 40 is not in the best shape, and every little town will have you slowing down.

We just did I70 across Illinois s few weeks ago. Much of it is 1 lane in each direction , but we stayed moving , it really wasn't that bad.
