We will be traveling from Naples to US 1 toward the Keys. I was wondering if US 41 is an enjoyable road thru South Florida (Scenery & Road Condition) or should we stay on I-75.

Since you are leaving from Naples it will be alot shorter to travel the old highway 41.
There will be less traffic and alot less stress.
Make sure you are familiar with the route so when nearing Dade County and a increase in traffic you do not make a wrong turn.

We just travelled that way today. It is generally a good , 60 MPH two-lane highway. It can be at times scenic and at times boring. As opposed to I-75 there are NPS visitor centers (Big Cypress Nat'l Preserve and Shark Valley) and other things to stop and see.

When you get to FL SR 997 (Krome Ave.) it would be best to continue to FL turnpike for the stretch south to Florida City. Krome Ave. can be very busy and goes right through downtown Homestead.

Frank;

I'm sitting at a Walmart off I75 at Cordele, GA. Got off I 75 and on to 41 south of Macon.

I think I'll take 41 down and then cut over to Crystal River north of Gainesville.

I must have been a day behind you.

We drove the Blue Ridge Parkway down from VA.

-Tom

US41 also known as the Tamiami Trail is a good two lane road across beautiful scenery until you get closer to Miami where it is all open everglades scenery. Watch for impatient drivers passing in both directions. Like another poster said watch out for SR 997 that is more direct to the Keys but is a very dangerous road. I was a law enforcement officer in Dade County for 31 years and I investigated numerous accidents on SR 997, AKA Krome Avenue. The traffic that a driver encounters between SR 997 and the Florida Turnpike as well as the outrageous tolls on the turnpike is worth it when avoiding SR 997.

While waiting to watch Superbowl XLI 1/2, I wanted to thank all for input. It looks like we will be taking US41 W to FLTP on Jan 3rd checking into Bluewater Key for 2 wks.
