I-80 south west from Truckee to Auburn

We are sitting in South Lake Tahoe and will need to head back to Grass Valley, CA next Friday. We came up the 50 after taking the 49 east from Auburn. Having NO desire to repeat the 49 in the other direction, we are looking for a new route back and are consisting the 1-80 from North Lake Tahoe. The Mountain Directory, doesn't make it sound like much more fun. Does anyone have any experience with that route or any good alternative? We're driving a 30 foot gasser towing a Jeep.

We have been east and west on I-80 in that area. Not a problem other than climbing or descending. We also have a, about 30 MH towing a car. I wouldn't hesitate in fact, we are heading to Truckee in July, so we will be going up that way.

About 25 miles West of Truckee take the Highway 20 exit and follow it right to Grass Valley. Great road. Have been traveling it forty years. We currently drive a 40 footer with a toad. If you need a campground the Fair Grounds in Nevada City is about a mile off highway 20 a few miles into the Nevada City area. Watch for the signs to Marysville/Yuba City. Since you have not traveled the area take a look at the Truckee area and try and imagine about 30 feet of snow trapping settlers near the lake.
