The last time I drove on I-81 southbound, from the NY border to the intersection of I-78 in Pa, some long segments of that road were in quite bad conditions.

Has someone driven on this road recently, and what is the condition. I know there is some construction on portions of it.

Thanks for the info.

I have driven I81 in April this year and will be driving next month, I did not find the road particularly bad, and you are right there are at least two major diversions for reconstruction. It is possible that they maybe finished soon, as winter is coming.

Just ran I 81 South from NY to I 80 2 days ago. Construction zones down to one lane in at least 4 places before during and after the Scranton Wilkes Boro area. Lousy piece of I 81 to begin with.

I'll try another road.

What about road conditions on I78 eastbound from 1287 in NJ to I81 in PA.

glad to hear they are repairing I-81. I drove that road last fall and broke a shock mounting bracket on my trailer.

Last week I drove I-81 from the border to I66 in Virginia.
The road condition is excellent. In NY state where it was prety bad everything has been repaired with a brand new coat of asphalt. In Pa also quality is very good. There remains a stretch of approx 10 to 15 miles, near the Scranton area, where there is construction but traffic is on 2 lanes southbound and pavement is not that bad. Overall I81 is in excellent conditions for the whole lenght I've driven it.

Just two weeks ago, we drove I-78 from the Garden State Parkway in Jersey to I-81 just north of Harrisburg. Other than some construction work near the Delaware River Bridge, it was no problem. In fact, they have improved I-78 quite a bit over the last several years.

I agree with I-81 north of I-80 towards Scranton being under heavy construction. But is good to go past Hazelton and over the mountain.
