We want to take I/90 from Spokane to MN just above Forest City. We should leave around 10/18. What are the chances of snow in the higher elevations of Idaho & Montana?

Minimal. But I've encounter snow mid September on I-90 east of Bozeman. Chances are you won't hit any but there's never any guarantee so you need to always be prepared and have an alternative plan or an extra day in your schedule to park it someplace should you need to.

I don't think you should have much problem at that time BUT check the weather reports for a few days before leaving Spokane and be flexable. You may want to leave a day earlier if you see a storm coming or on the other hand leave a day or two later to be after a storm. Be sure to carry chains and if you are towing a toad I would suggest having a set of cable chains for the rear of the toad. You want it stay behind especially going down hill. I think your main concern will be the 2 passes in Idaho.

Ed,
We will be right behind you leaving on the 21st headed for Sioux Falls and then south. I read that they got hit with snow in the ID/MT passes last week but we have our fingers crossed that the roads will be clear by the time we go through. If you do go through on the 18th please post a road report. If I go through first I will do the same.
Drive safe...
Greg

OK. We didn't want to worry about the weather; so we left on the 16th. We took I/84 instead. When we arrived @ Twin Falls, ID KOA it was 76 outside.... no snow. Thanks for that "Interstate Weather Channel" site it's great. Tomorrow, Rock Sprgs WY, then Cabelas in Sideny NE, etc. We expect the North East's snow will be gone when we get there.

Chickadee,
We Chickened out and took I/80. We used the AC as often as the heat. We are in our last Campground (PA) and get back to the Cape tomorrow. We the rest until just after Christmas and then head to Ft. Wilderness!
