I-95 N around NYC

We will be traveling from Virginia to Maine on I-95 and want to know a good route around NYC. Our first stop north of NYC is Foxbourgh MA.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I-287 would take you around most of the densely urban areas if you insist on taking I-95.

Be prepared for a lot of tolls on I-95. Personally, I would consider route like I-81 to I-84 which would avoid most of the tolls.

Not sure where in Va you are coming from...but I go up rt 17 from 95 thru Warrenton to I-66 to I-81
The 81 to I78 to I-287 North to I-87 North to Newburgh,NY
Then I-84 ,thru Connecticut to Mass....to I-90 East
I-90 to I-495 East to Foxboro exit on Rt 1 North
Normandy Farms,10 minutes up the road on the right .....C

Thanks, looks like this is a better option.

This great. Yes, Normandy Farms is our first stop. Thanks for these options. Sounds like a good alternative.

Good advice above. A westerly detour is the best solution. If you must pass through NYC on I-95, it moves fairly well around 3:00AM.

Just did that and 287 to 87 back to 95 North of NYC is only way to go.

I have travelled this route and it is the best option in my opinion . You need to avoid I-95 if you can as it is a mess through NYC and lower Fairfield County Connecticut.

I'm with Chuckster52! That's the way I go. Just a warning to watch for potholes and generally rough roads all over the northeast. They don't seem so bad in a passenger car but they are bonejarring in the motorhome.

" watch out for potholes"..........that's an understatement, all the roads through New York are potholes.
