How far North do you pick up 9A? We travel to Naples, FL (heading back down @ Thanksgiving) and take the crap shoot of either I-95 or I-295. I-295 just feels like I am going the long way!!

Pretty much the same place you pick up 295. Just head the other way.

We live in St. Augustine and frequently go through / around Jax. If you are hitting Jax between the hours of 9 AM and 3 PM I would suggest staying on 95. If before 9 or after 3 we use 295. 9A has several intersections with traffic lights......295 has no intersections. Jax traffic has improved quite a bit over the past few years.....in my opinion due to raising the speed limit on 95.

Wrong.... There used to be some traffic lights on Rt 9A around the east of JAX. Not anymore. The Interstate quality road on Rt 9A was completed a couple years ago and is 2 or more lanes each way now. Route 9A basically completes the loop around JAX now. We came down through there during morning rush hour (8:30am) today and while the traffic was heavier than non-rush hours, there were no delays. It is both shorter in distance than 295 and, so far, not much traffic (except rush hour).

The 9A is picked up on the north side of JAX at the 295 interchange. 295 goes west and 9A goes to the east. I think the sign says "Beaches or Naval Station Mayport".

If you get lost send up a flare the day after Thanksgiving and we'll look for you as we pass thru.

That's great that they finally removed the lights.

I've done the I 295 around Jacksonville and the I 95 drive through Jacksonville several times. I suggest that you time your drive so that you do not go through Jacksonville during rush hour traffic. Stay in the middle lanes and go slower than normal traffic. I find the north part of Jax has the most turns and you really have to pay attention to the signs but once you make it over the bridge it is smooth sailing. Have fun at DW and try out the Fort Wilderness campground.
