Take into account that there is a point where driving a longer route to avoid tolls may exceed the cost of just paying the tolls.

Making some assumptions of saving $100 in tolls ($50 each way), any route that adds 85 miles or more ends up costing you more in fuel than tolls ($3.50 per gallon, 6 MPG).

So keep that in mind when you're planning a new route.

Safe travels!

Rvthere, part of my decision is based on the terrible condition that 81 is in. The tolls are a secondary concern. I’d love to take the most direct route, just don’t want to get too beat up!

X2 on Wrapped's route. I live in Lancaster and have traveled up to the Finger Lakes on 15 and gone to Ocean City on 30 and 41 to Route 1 thru Dover, DE and would recommend it.

PA Turnpike tolls are absolutely ridiculous and they are still going up.
