Is it legal for a 40' RV towing a car to use the H.O.V lanes and / or the Seattle bypass tunnel?

I agree. Per Wa State Code, vehicles towing trailers and vehicles over 10,000 GVW are not allowed. Class B motorbikes are specifically allowed because they are a "van conversion".

Here is the link I found

http://apps.leg.wa.gov/WAC/default.a...te=468-510-020

I assume by the bypass tunnel, you are referingvto the I-5 express lanes. I think you are ok there.

(1) RCW 46.61.100(3) mandates that no vehicle towing a trailer or no vehicle or combination over 10,000 lb. may use the left lane of limited access roadways having three or more lanes in one direction, and that a high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane is not considered the left hand lane of a roadway. Within this section, 10,000 lb. means 10,000 lb. gross vehicle weight (G.V.W.).

I have been in the HOV lane many times between Seattle and Tacoma with no problems. I did get a ticket one time a few years ago for being in the 4th lane. Traffic was moving very slow in the right 3. I was trying to stay out of the HOV lane since I did not know this at the time.

Yes I did mean the express lanes. I was also concerned about having propane on board as it is a tunnel in sections. I have used it once but just want clarity. I might 2x check with a trooper.

So that gets a bit interesting.
Is a 40'motorhome weighing 30,000 pnds an rv or a truck?
We always follow the truck speed limit and thought we were looked at as a truck except stopping at weigh stations.

Its registered as a recreation vehicle. I think trucks refer to traditional trucks ,eg semi with 2 persons not allowed.
