I80 to Groveland Ca.

We will be traveling West on I80 this summer, we have never been to California before so we are looking for suggestions for the best route from I80 to Groveland Ca. We have a 40' 5er and the TV is a Ford F350 dually with a 6.7 diesel.

You don't say from where on I80. Are you coming from the San Francisco or Sacramento area?

If from the west near San Francisco, it's a pretty straight forward route east on 580 then 205 and 5, thru Manteca on 120 all the way to Groveland. There is a twisty, windy grade on 120 just before Groveland but I think big rigs manage to get up there. I've driven this route many times over the years, most recently coming through Yosemite to the east of Groveland in my 30' Class C.

From Sacramento, probably I5 south to 120.

You could take 395 south to highway 120 and then west to Groveland.

However you better be a very experienced mountain driver to take that route. I drive a lot in mountains out here and wouldn't take that route.

Your next option is highway 49 south to highway 120 and then east to Groveland. That is two lane road and not too bad.

Or you could go to Sacramento and hit highway 99, go south to highway 120 and then east to Groveland.

You didn't mention any dates. Be aware 4th of July is reservations only in most of the state. Nor did you mention where you are staying around Groveland.

Anything close to Yosemite is pretty booked up all summer.

Hello and good morning. I grew up in that area, if you take hwy 120 into Groveland, make sure you take the New Priest Grade, not the Old Priest Grade. Just take your time and watch some of the corners, but from what I can tell, you should be able to make it. Safe travels

Hi there. My wife works in Yosemite. If your last overnight is Elko, You might want one more night before Groveland. Take I-80 to Business 80 (capital city freeway) off ramp after Madison Ave. Stay on Business 80 until it turns into 99. continue south to 120, follow the signs to Yosemite.
