We are thinking of taking IH10 east to Mississippi then heading north. Can anyone tell me if IH10 is still teethrattling bumpy? Any recent info would be appreciated.

My friend drives from Galveston to SE Louisiana every two weeks, and he told me yesterday the section east of Lake Charles is completed. They are still working on the two bridges around Beaumont. It sounds as if it is vastly improved. We are heading that way on the 24th.

Yes, Not a problem for cars but a 40' Motorhome is another story. Sections between Beaumont, Texas to Sulfur, La and I-12 Between Baton Rouge and Hammond are the worst. JMHO, I would drive these sections with caution and in daylight (that way you can see what's coming ).

Anyone considering traveling on I-10 thru Houston this weekend please note: I-10 is CLOSED completely (both ways) from Wilcrest to Gessner. It will be a mess but hopefully one day all the construction will be finished and we will be able to move on I-10 instead of sitting in traffic.

Returning from Fredericksburg, used I-10 last Thursday from Seguin to N.O. Still all the construction on the W. side of Houston from Katy to the 610 intersection then clear on thru. All this in a driving rainstorm around 1100. Some new construction between Baytown and Winnie. Still some narrow lanes from Beaumont to State Line. Recently resurfaced in La. to Lake Charles + one more lane. Still bumpy on east side of Lake Charles to US 165, but they are working on it. From there to Lafayette, smooth as a baby's butt. Some freeway hop E. of Lafayette to the spillway then smooth into Baton Rouge. Heavy traffic on the Miss River Bridge since it was 4PM. Some construction on the S. side of B.R. but nearly done.
Haven't been the whole length of I-12 lately but the parts I've been on have been resurfaced in the last couple of yrs. Mainly Hammond to B.R. which was very rough. Not even gonna talk about the current condition on I-55 from Hammond to Miss. line.
Hope this helps.
Dave

It has been over a year since an update. We are going from Florida to Houston in March 09. What might we expect.

Last time across I-12 was this past Christmas. It's good end to end. The section of I-10 from the east end of I-12 to the Mississippi line is rough. I-10 in Mississippi is good.
