Illinois to Cape Cod trip
Going to head to Cape Code in a couple of weeks. This will be my first big trip pulling the toad. It looks like 74E to Indy, then 70E. Pick up 76E in Harrisburg. 78Eto 287N. Then on to 95-195-495 to Cape Cod. Anybody see any issues with this route pulling the Wrangler? Thanks

In Harrisburg, I would get on I81N, follow that to I84E. In southern CT, jump off of I84E onto I691E. Follow that to I91N. Get off I91 and back onto I84E (you don't want to travel through West Hartford on I84). Take I84E to I90E (Mass Pike). Get off I90 onto I495S and head to the Cape. This avoids the mess through NY city and associated suburbs in CT, as well as going through Providence.
BTW, there's a Walmart in Wilkes-Barre, PA off I81 that's great for overnight parking. It's about 5-6 hours to the Cape from there.

Be careful if you follow your GPS. I started on 70 e in Ohio going to cape cod and my GPS took me across the George Washington bridge. $76 toll. Cash only.

bevo7 if you do it at the right time (not close to rush HOURS) your route is a little faster and shorter. The driving will be a little more intense. You would also go over the Tappen Zee bridge; they are building its replacement just North of the old one. If you are interested, this is a construction site of massive proportions, more cranes than you will see in 3 years!

We travel out to central Illinois twice a year. You might want to consider taking US30 across Ohio (however you want to get there) and I-80 to I-81 & I-84. It might be a little longer winding around the bigger cities but you'll have less traffic, hassles and tolls.

Leaving Indy tomorrow ,Just checked google map for best route to Cape Cod. Looks like 70E to71N ..271Nto 90 E. Then to495 to 25S into the Cape. This is a little different than what I was thinking previously. Looks like maybe this route slightly less stressful, thoughts? Thanks!

Illinois to Cape Cod trip
bevo....... So you'll pick up I-90 in Cleveland, and ride it all the way to I-495 in Mass.
PRO: Better quality road, no NYC, no PVD, no Conn I-95 (a lot of bad road there), no I-84.
CON: Toll all the way, Cleveland to I-495, and the NYS Thruway is pretty pricey as toll roads go.
I've driven I-84 Scranton to Mass twice in the past year or so. I might be tempted to take I-90 this time.

If you are arriving on the Cape Friday make sure you get to the bridge by 1:00 - 2:00PM or you will sit in traffic for a WHILE!!!!!!!

Living in NY State, I would do exactly as you are planning. Probably the worst traffic you will see is after the 84-90 junction to I495 and then as was said,

I would take 70 to Columbus then 71 north to Akron to 76 to 80...then 80 straight across to 81 then north on 81 to 84...go east on 84 to Sturbridge,Mass to 90 to 495 straight out to Cape Cod...the roughest road is the small section on 76....but we just did most of this route 3 weeks ago...Chuck
