If traveling through Indianapolis from west to east on I-70 is is best to stay on I-70 and go straight through or take the southern loop of I-465 around downtown? It would be on a Friday midday or early afternoon.

Hi Two Bit,

When travelling I-70 I go thru Indy rather than around. I find it not very intimidating - especially during mid-day. Sign boards are well placed and few lane changes required. The junction with I-65 is only place to be alert for. Keep your eyes open, have few distractions (radio, CB, etc.) stay in middle lane and you'll be fine.

Thank you Frank,
Just the type of info I was looking for, especially about the middle lane. In an unknown metropolitan area, one never knows when the loops are better or the straight through the middle. For example, in San Antonio, I always find going thru is better than loop 410 most times of day.

I agree. I have never found a reason to use the outer belt rather than going directly through the city. Shouldn't be difficult at all unless the orange barrels are out.

Good luck.

Frank

we have done the trip about 4 times now, and always take the loop around the bottom of the city..have not had a problem going this way..we are never there during any rush hour traffic.
