Indianapolis to State College, Pa

We are headed to State College for the Penn State game this weekend. I have two options for routes. First is to take 1-70 East to the PA Turnpike and then I-99 up to State College. The second option is I-70 East to I-270 around Columbus then I-71 up to I-76 and I-80 across OH and PA and into State College. Both routes are very similar in miles and travel time. Although the second option is a bit faster. My Garmin 770 routes us on the first option.

Has anyone driven these roads recently and can comment on road conditions and construction?

IMO the worst section is I 70 in Indiana, and of course the ongoing major construction of I 465 E in Indianapolis. I have driven your latter route back in 2014, it was a good route then.

I'd vote for the latter, keeps you off the turnpike/tolls.

270 on the east side of Cbus has construction around 670/Morse Rd. Stay in the left lanes to motor through. Be in the right lane by the time you pass Cleveland Avenue exit (approx 6mi past Morse Rd exit) so you can cross over lanes that come in from your right to get into the 71N exit. You don't have to be in the far right lane there, you can be in the next to far as that 2nd from right lane goes both 71N & 71S. When you come off the 71N exit ramp, work your way to the next to the far left lane & stay there. This way you stay out of the way of the merging at the Polaris/Gemini Pkwy lanes.

Have fun at the game!

I agree with the second route. Avoid the toll roads when possible
