Indy to Ocala, FL

Typically we take 65 south to 24 east, merging into southbound 75. However, we’re considering 265 (north of Louisville) to 64 east to 75 south. Appears to be about 40 additional miles, but we bypass Louisville and Nashville traffic. Any comments would be appreciated. Pulling a toad with our 40’ Class A.

I don't see much of an advantage heading east to Lexington (traffic) and then south to Knoxville (more traffic) because you still have to deal with Chattanooga and (OMG) Atlanta traffic. Plus there is still traffic on the northside of Louisville.

Here's a suggestion. Follow your plan to take I-265 around the top side of Louisville but stay on I-265 all the way back around to I-65. Go on to Bowling Green and take the exit for the William H Natcher Pky (9007) and Hwy 231 towards Scottsville. Then south on 231 to I-40 outside of Lebanon. Follow I-40 West to I-840 south around Murfreesboro and continue on I-24, I-75 onto Ocala. If following Hwy 231 around Nashville doesn't work for you the consider the Briley Pky (Tn 155) around the east side. Stay on it even after it crosses I-40 when you rejoin I-24.

I've gone these routes in both directions and found the drive pretty relaxing. No matter what you get to tackle Atlanta but if you hit it early enough in the morning especially on a weekend follow I-75 straight through. The trick is to get in the HOV lane all the way.

We are in PLant City, originally from Indiana. I prefer to head south on I65 all the way to Montgomery,AL, them 231 to I10. Hwy 19/98 to Chiefland, then Hwy 27 to Ocala. Its mostly four lane all the way, smother drive with no mountains. Its about 20-30 miles further but who cares, take your time and enjoy the country.
